Raymond "Ray" N. Leeper, 87, of 937 Center Point Rd. NE, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 1997, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Immanuel Baptist Church, by the Rev. Edward Gregory. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anna L.; two daughters, Doris Carrillo of Culver City, Calif., and Joyce Nebel of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Jonts Leeper of Clarinda; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by an infant son, David Ray, in 1940; three brothers, Cheery, Roy and Lee Marlin Leeper; and a sister, Catherine Stewart.

Ray was born on May 1, 1909, in Bonner Springs, Kan., to Lee Roy and Mary Harris Leeper. He spent his early childhood in Tupelo, Miss., and lived in Belmond, Iowa, before coming to Cedar Rapids in 1928. Ray married Anna L. Ronnenberg on June 24, 1931, in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Leeper Sanitary Service for 29 years, retiring in 1971. He then worked part time at Russell's Guides Inc. for six years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church; AARP; the Over 60 Club at Jane Boyd Community House; and a former member of FOE Aerie 2272, Cedar Rapids. Ray enjoyed raising flowers, vegetable gardening and fishing. His family was very special to him and he dearly loved them. A memorial fund has been established.
