Dean C. Cooper, M.D., 84, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, March 24, 2006, at his home, surrounded by family members. He was born May 28, 1921, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Dr. Cooper married Rosamond Ruppert on April 15, 1944, and graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1945. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served for two years in the U.S. Canal Zone in Panama. Dr. Cooper had a medical practice in radiology in Sioux Falls, S.D., and then in Fort Dodge from 1951 until his retirement in 1987. Dr. Cooper also served as a radiologist for hospitals in Webster City, Belmond, Lake City and Sac City, Iowa. He and his wife raised four children in Fort Dodge, and in 1987 the couple retired to Punta Gorda. Dr. Cooper had many hobbies and interests including cameras, photography, German language and culture, furniture construction, gardening, boating, and in later years, computing.

He is survived by his daughters, Elaine (William) Rice of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Dr. Kay Cooper of Rochester, Minn.; son, Kim Cooper of Quartzsite, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Alicia Byrnes, Justin Rice, Jeff Rice, Kevin Younge and Kelly Younge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rosamond; and their eldest son, Alan. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens in Fort Dodge. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte, Fla.
