Winnie Albers was born Feb. 4, 1907, on her parents' farm in rural Klemme, the daughter of George and Evawina (Wientjes) Albers. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Reformed Church. Winnie attended rural Klemme schools and graduated from the eighth grade. Following her graduation, she helped raise her family on the farm. Winnie was united in marriage to Edgar "Mike" Buss on Aug. 11, 1936, at the Immanuel Reformed Church in Klemme. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Klemme for 26 years. In addition to assisting Edgar with the farm, Winnie was a lifelong homemaker. After retiring from active farming, Winnie and Mike moved to Klemme in the early 1960s, where they made their home for many years. The couple enjoyed traveling throughout the western United States and had been to Arizona, the Black Hills, Yellowstone and various other locations, as well as vacationing in Hawaii. Winnie looked forward to any occasions that included her family and friends. She enjoyed hosting duck dinners for her family and topping them off with one of her delicious homemade pies that her family will fondly remember.

Various other gatherings she hosted included hamburger frys, oyster stew, waffle dinners and Sunday afternoon get-togethers following church services. Winnie had been a longtime member of the Sunshine Club in Klemme. She had also enjoyed playing in various bridge and 500 groups around the area. Some of her other favorite pastimes included raising beautiful daffodils, roses and peonies. Winnie was excellent at doing handicraft, needlework, quilting and crocheting. She had made numerous gifts for her family and friends. Winnie was very much devoted to her family, spouse, and siblings. She and her sisters would often assist each other with many projects and activities. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Carrie, and looked forward to shopping excursions to Austin, Minn. After her husband's death in February 1998, Winnie continued to maintain her independence by living in her own home in Klemme. In the later years of her life, she would make daily trips to Belmond to visit her sister at the health care center. In November 1998, she became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center and had lived there since that time.
She will be remembered by many for being a very independent and determined lady, even in the time of her decline in health.

Winnie is survived by several nieces and nephews, in-laws and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar "Mike" Buss, and four sisters, five brothers and one nephew. Tenold-Andrews Funeral Home in Klemme is in charge of arrangements.
