Donald Eugene Waddington, 62, of rural Hanlontown, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Snitzer and Rev. Orville Walters officiating. Burial was in the Brush Point Cemetery, rural Hanlontown, with military graveside honors by the Edward Tosel American Legion Post #110, Manly, Iowa.

Donald Eugene Waddington was born on Oct. 23, 1935, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of George and Elizabeth (Gabrielson) Waddington. He attended and received his education in the Belmond community school system. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 27, 1955, serving with HQ Company 2nd Bn., 30th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on Jan. 25, 1957. He was united in marriage to Betty Tuttle on July 13, 1958, at the Fertile Church of Christ. After their marriage together they farmed in the Fertile, Sheffield and Thornton, Iowa, areas For the past 26 years they farmed west of Hanlontown, and enjoyed raising his Brush Point Belgian draft horses. Donald also was an auctioneer for the S&W Auction Company and also drove truck for several trucking firms. Don loved the Lord, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and also enjoyed children and raising his draft horses. Meeting and talking with people was a favorite past time. He was an active member of the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church and was head usher at the church for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Waddington of rural Hanlontown; his mother, Elizabeth Waddington of Belmond; three children, Penny Miller and her husband, Dan, of Fertile, Iowa, Tammy Waddington of Clear Lake, and Bruce Waddington of Fertile; four grandchildren, Heather Schulze and her husband, Joshua, of Clear Lake, Joshua Miller of Fertile, Jordan Bakkum of Fertile, and Kandice Waddington of Fertile; two sisters, Carol Ann Williams and her husband, Larry, of Ackley, Iowa, and Mary Jane Charlton and her husband, Norman of Albion, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Robert Tuttle of Mason City, and Merle Tuttle of Clear Lake; as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Waddington.

Organist Deanna Jordan accompanied soloists Linda Tuttle and Carol Ann Williams. Honorary pallbearers were John Van Maanen, Lloyd Bloom, Severin Severson, Raymond Jordan, Norman Nyhus, Russ Vander Weerdt, Wayne Bang, Don Sunne, Otto Anderson, Harold Nyhus, and other members of his prayer group. Pallbearers were Tom Renchin, Andy Oswald, Wally Mayland, Pat Renchin, Randy Osward, Russell Hein.
