ROCKFORD, IL - Robert D. Flatebo, 72, Rockford died at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Provena St. Anne Center. Born June 28, 1937 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, son of John and Geraldine Hanson Flatebo. Graduated from Eagle Grove High School, where he was president of the Future Farmers of American and proudly raised award winning hogs. Rockford resident for the last 52 years. Married Nancy C. Ferguson in Rockford on July 6, 1968. Employed by Woodward Governor for 41 years, where he served in various capacities including personnel manager, tech services, sales and international sales. He traveled extensively, but always preferred his own yard and back porch. He retired in 1997 but continued his long standing relationships with his Woodward friends, including the Friday morning breakfast group. Active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher. Survivors include wife, Nancy; daughter, Tonya (Steven) Stromquist, Roscoe; sons, James (Bernice) Flatebo, Garden Grove, Calif. and Keith (Jody) Flatebo, Waconia, Minn.; stepchildren, Kevin (Karen) Dhuse, Rockford, Kim Kramen (James Ryder) and Kerry Dhuse, Machesney Park; grandchildren, Abby, Erik, Lyle, Teddy, Michael, Jacob, Gabby, Craig (Sarah), Cheri (Shane), Michael, Shawn (Laura), Nicole (Glenn), Valerie and Brandon. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Samantha, Emily, Justin, Allyson, Chelsea and Sami; brother, Carrol (Judy) Flatebo, Eagle Grove, Iowa; sisters, Mary Howard, Clear Lake, Iowa, Joanne (Mark) Howe, Beloit, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; and brother-in-law, Wayne Howard. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, in Concordia Lutheran Church, the Rev. Philip Hanson will officiate. Visitation on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to time of service at the church. Visitation also from 5 to 7 p.m Monday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center or Concordia Lutheran Church.
