WATERLOO, IA - Marion R. Axtell, 74, of 909 Bayard St., died Tuesday, June 2, at home of cancer. He was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Waterloo, son of Donald S. and Della Stoner Axtell. He married Lorraine Blesie on June 6, 1948, in Renwick. Mr. Axtell was a graduate of the School of Savings & Loan at the University of Indiana. He worked for 37 years at Perpetual Savings and Loan, retiring in 1986 as president and CEO. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II in Europe. He was past president of the Waterloo Optimist Club and the Iowa Unit WBCCI. Survived by: his wife, two daughters, Linda Butler of Dubuque and Janis McCort of Perth, West Australia; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Preceded in death by; a daughter, Peggy Bagenstos; and a brother, Donald E. Services: 11:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home. Memorials: may be directed to First United Methodist Church Cottage Fund of Cedar Valley Hospice.
