5/27/1996BELMOND, IA -- Clara J. Frey, 84, died Sunday (May 26, 1996) at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Reformed Church in Alexander with Rev. Gerald Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Tenold Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to services.
Clara was born Aug. 15, 1911 at Walnut Grove, Minn, the daughter of C.B. and Anna (Johnson) Johnson. She moved to Bode, as a small child and to Alexander; where she received her education. Clara was united in marriage to Bert Frey on Feb. 24, 1938 at Marion Center Parsonage in Franklin County. They lived in Meservey for four years, and moved to the family farm near Alexander, where they farmed for 40 years, before retiring to Belmond in 1983. She is survived by her husband, Bert Frey of Belmond; a daughter, Donna Pals and her husband Lyle of Belmond; four grandchildren, Kim Funke and her husband Brian of Belmond, Sue Theobald and her husband Dennis of Clear Lake, Dave Pals of Belmond, and Dan Pals of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Amy and Adam Funke; and a sister, Mrs. Rose Dirksen of Hampton. She is preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Christina Schomburg.
