August L. Hamson, age 94, of Bricelyn, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the United Hospital in Blue Earth. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn with the Revs. Edward Nieman and Patricia Hinkie officiating. Visitation will be held at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn today from 5 tol 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will take place at Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in rural Bricelyn.

August was born on Oct. 9, 1910, the son of Oscar Sr. and Caroline (Krug) Hamson in Renwick, Iowa. He was baptized on Nov. 13, 1910, in Renwick, Iowa, and confirmed at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church on June 14, 1925, in Bricelyn. He attended the Jelle Country School. On May 8, 1935, he was united in marriage to Ruth Oren at the South Blue Earth Church Parsonage in rural Bricelyn. After he retired from farming August was employed by the Bricelyn Canning Factory, followed by Winnebago Industries and then by Banquet Foods. He was a faithful member of the Bricelyn Lutheran Church. August enjoyed attending the Spencer County Fair, area county fairs and Farming of Yesteryear. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and concertina while visiting with family and friends. August was a lover of the big farm horses, and feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. He was always kind, generous, and thankful, and never expected anything in return. Blessed be his memory.

He is survived by two sons: Roger and his wife Pat Hamson of Kiester, and Richard Hamson of Minneapolis; three daughters: Alice and her husband Keith Braund of Emmons, Catherine and her husband Guy Oldfather of Kiester, and Sharyl and her husband Lee Johnson of Bricelyn; daughter-in-law, Judy Hamson of Frost; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Stella Oren and Linda Hamson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Ruth; daughter, son-in-law and grandson: LeeAnn, Howard and Daniel Nicholson; son, Paul; grandson, Jonathan P. Hamson; grandsons: Bradley P. Johnson and Roger A. Hamson Jr.; and eight brothers and two sisters.
