Lawrence W. Potts Sr., 92

Lawrence Potts, 92, of Omak, Wash., life's journey was ended June 5, 2009, at his oldest son's home, where his wife of 68 years resided over the past seven months. Lawrence died peacefully in his sleep. was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of George and Madeline Potts. He was the fifth of 13 children. At the age of 8 his parents moved from Iowa to the family farm in Gilman, Wis., where he finished his grade schooling and then began his work life. On March 18,1941, he was united in marriage to Freda Marie Larson and moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where he was a machinist and supervisor for Wisconsin Motors during the war and the ensuing 15 years. He was a brave, courageous, industrious and caring person who worked as a diesel mechanic in the construction industry for most of his working life. His travels included construction jobs in the Midwest, Southwest, California and finally retired at age 62 in Alaska. Upon retirement he and Freda settled in Coeur d'Alene. For the past 30 years they divided their time at home, at their cabin that he built in the Yaak region of northwest Montana, visiting their children and grandchildren, and spending the winters on the southern tip of Texas.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Freda who devoted her life to him and their eight children, daughter Fredaine (Bob) McMillan, of San Diego, Calif., sons, Larry Jr. (Sheryl) of Omak, Wash., Bruce (Rosie) of Sparks, Nev., daughter Jeaneen (Alan) Weinbrecht of Glendora, Calif., sons Carl of Quilicene, Wash., Bill (Marci) of Sparks, Nev., Keith (Patti) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kevin (Jennie) of Post Falls; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Mary and brothers, Fred, Paul, Ray and Phillip. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Madeline; sisters, Catherine, Lorraine, Margaret and brothers, George, Mark, Huey and Eddy. A Christian Burial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene with Fr. Cyprien Niyitegeka, his parish priest in Omak, presiding. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the car of final arrangements.
