Elvira A. Umstead, the daughter of Anthony Sebastian and Marie Emma (Petry) Fischer was born August 22, 1922 in Woolstock, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, attending country school and Clarion High School. Elvira married Melvin J. Umstead on December 23, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple renewed their vows on May 30, 1980, with Father Norman White officiating. Elvira worked at Wilson’s in Eagle Grove and was a homemaker. Elvira passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 86 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvin in 1992; and two brothers, Melvin and George. She is survived by her daughter, Connie R. Umstead of Red Bluff, California, and a very dear and close friend, Sue Anderson of Eagle Grove.

EAGLE GROVE - Elvira A. Umstead, 86, of Eagle Grove, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She is survived by her daughter, Connie R. Umstead of Red Bluff, California. Funeral services will Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove at 10:30 a.m. with Father Nils Hernandez officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
