Martin R. Case was born at Spafford, Onondaga Co., NY Jan. 21 1836 and died at his home in Belmond IA Sept 16, 1921. When a child Mr. Case's parents moved to Clinton, Rock Co., WI and five years later to Janesville, WI. In 1857 he was married to Miss Mary E. Fellows of Center WI. To this union five children were born; only one son, Frank, survives his father. In 1865 Mr. Case moved with his family to Evansville WI and was engaged in the hotel and livery business for a number of years. In the spring of 1881 he moved to a farm near Goodell (IA) where they lived for about six years. From the farm he moved to Belmond and took charge of the Kern House also starting a livery business. He built the livery barn and later the Case Hotel which he operated for about two years. For several years Mr. Case has been in poor health but had been able to be at the livery barn almost every day until last Oct. since which time he has been confined to his home. Mr. Case was a good business man and was upright and honest in all his dealings with his fellow men. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon (19 Sept) and were conducted by Rev. S.U. Leinbach. [Burial in Franklin Grove Cemetary, Belmond]
