Funeral services for Donna L. Barz will be Saturday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be designated to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Donna Lou Barz, the daughter of Guy S. and Gladys McGowan Peterson, was born June 17, 1935, at the family home in Dows. She graduated from Dows Senior High School and attended the University of Iowa. On July 7, 1956, Donna was united in marriage with William H. Barz at the Presbyterian Church in Dows. Donna devoted her life to her husband and family. She had worked as a bookkeeper at the Franklin County Courthouse. Donna loved her family and always enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed following the University of Iowa sporting events.

Donna died on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Urbandale Healthcare Center in Urbandale. She was 73 years old. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cinda Rae Barz; her granddaughter, Staci Leigh Mitchell; and her sister Jessie Ann Vogel. Those left to honor Donna’s memory include her husband, Bill of Newton; her son, Kurt (Amber) Barz of Johnston; her grandchildren, Tiffany Barz and Brent Barz; her brother, Dennis (Thora) Peterson of Dows; and her sister, Shirley (Jim) Bruner of Florida.
