Former Resident Dies, Cherokee

Orville Nordstrom, 59, a former Boone resident, died Sunday evening, August 25, at Cherokee, Iowa, where he had been making his home. Mr. Nordstrom was a World War II veteran and a retired car repairman for the Chicago and North Western Railroad. Survivors include two sons, Jack of Marshalltown and Robert of Boone; one brother, Russell, of Boone and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 28, at 3:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray M. Baker of Boone officiating. Friends may begin calling at the funeral home Tuesday evening. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.

Orval Daniel [incorrect - should be D.] Nordstrom, son of John and Maude Nordstrom, was born at Boone, Iowa, April 23, 1904 and passed away at Clarion, Iowa, August 25, 1963. Having attained the age of 59 years, 4 months, and 16 days. He united in marriage with Bessie Jane Edmunds, on May 10, 1921, at Boone, Iowa. To this union three sons were born; John, Robert, and Richard. Most of his life was spent in and around Boone. He was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company for thirty years, serving as a car inspector. After the death of his wife he moved to Clarion, Iowa where he operated a small resort for a number of years. Some of his lifelong hobbies and interests were hunting, fishing and boat building. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church and served in the Armed Forces of World War II in the Construction Batallion service. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Brotherhood of Railway Car Men. Of his parental family, only his brother Russell of Boone remains. He was proceeded in death also by his son Richard in 1926 and his wife Bessie on Aug. 10, 1949. Remaining of his immediate relatives are his sons: John of Marshalltown, Iowa and Robert of Boone, Iowa. There are six grandchildren - Nancy, John, Sue, Steven, Debora, and Robert, and a nephew William Nordstrom of Webster City, Iowa.
