SHEFFIELD - Harvey Herman Oltman, 79, of Sheffield, died Friday (Feb. 25, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Sheffield, with the Rev. Remigio P. Panlaqui officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Harvey Herman Oltman was born July 1, 1920, to Henry and Louise Koenen Oltmanns, near Latimer. He attended rural schools near Latimer. He married Ione Helen Kuhlers on Feb. 7, 1945, at First Reformed Church in Meservey. He served his country during World War II in Italy and Africa. Following his discharge, he returned to the Sheffield area, where he farmed until 1969. He then worked for Sheffield Brick and Tile Company until its closing. Harvey and Ione moved into Sheffield in the early 1970s. Harvey enjoyed woodworking, was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan and was a general handyman. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and still helped on the farm. He also volunteered to deliver Meals On Wheels. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0658 in Latimer.

Survivors include his two sons, Richard Oltman and wife, Nancy, of Lake Mills, and Gary Oltman and wife, Deb, of Sheffield; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Matthews and husband, Bob, of Sheffield, Viola Kappen and husband, Kenneth, of Sheffield, and Donna Kreitlow and husband, Duane, of Kirbyville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ione, on Jan. 2, 1984. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home;
