Mrs. Ethel Mae Tuttle, 91, of rural Clear Lake, Iowa, died Friday, July 18, 1997 at her home. Funeral services were held Monday, July 21 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Graveside services were held at Belmond Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa. The family suggests memorials be made to the Ethel Mae Tuttle Memorial Fund.

Ethel was born Oct. 5, 1905 in Belmond, the daughter of Willis Sylvester and Nellie Rose (Bullis) Luick. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1924 and then earned a Normal Training Certificate to teach school. She taught rural school, as well as first grade at the Fertile Consolidated School from 1960-71. On Jan. 4, 1928 she married Morgan Tuttle in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Belmond and Clarion areas from 1928-47. They moved to Clear Lake in 1947. Morgan died April 17, 1968. Ethel enjoyed living on a farm throughout her life, but she also delighted in traveling all over the world. One of her greatest joys was being with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, the Fertile Garden Club and Neighborhood Livewires Birthday Club.

She is survived by three children, Robert Carl Tuttle, Mason City, Iowa, Betty Mae Waddington and her husband, Don, Hanlontown, Iowa, and Merle Luick Tuttle and his wife, Marsha, of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren, Timothy Tuttle and his wife, Linda, of Fertile, Iowa, Mark Tuttle of Joice, Iowa, Robin Harms and her husband, Randy of Joice, Danny Tuttle and his wife, Brenda, Mason City, Vicky Graf and her husband, Jim, of Mason City, Sherry Medlin and her husband, Joe, of Altoona, Iowa, Penny Miller and her husband, Dan, of Fertile, Tammy Waddington of Thornton, Iowa, Bruce Waddington and his wife, Jenifer, of Fertile, Rebecca Tuttle of Clear Lake, William Tuttle and his wife, Hope, Clear Lake, Jennifer Tuttle of Clear Lake; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Hill, of Belmond. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Leo Dean Tuttle, Billy Robert Tuttle, Larry Lee Tuttle; and a sister, Emma Watts.

Organist was Mary Jane Reynolds. Special music was provided by Dan Miller and Linda Tuttle. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Bernard Olson, Rev. Vincent James, Dorothy Pedersen, Lee Walston, Dr. R.E. Calhoun, June Olson, Amy James, Ardes Bier, Jane Morris, Don Goranson, and others of the Sunday School class. Pallbearers were Dan Tuttle, Mark Tuttle, Randy Harms, William Tuttle, Tim Tuttle, Bruce Waddington, Jim Graf, and Joe Medlin.
