Everett L. Slaughter, 84, of Riverside, Iowa died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the Washington Care Center following an extended illness. Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City with the Rev. Larry Rath officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Riverside VFW Post No. 1259. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in Riverside. Memorials may be made to the Riverside Fire Department and First Responders.

Mr. Slaughter was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Louisa County to Raymond and Grace (Thomas) Slaughter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Margaret Brazee Nov. 27, 1947, in Eagle Grove. He worked for the Crandic Railroad for 23? years. Survivors include two sons, Everett "Butch" Slaughter Jr. and his wife, Sue, and Dewayne "Skip" Slaughter, all of Riverside two grandchildren one brother, Ralph Slaughter of Lone Tree and one sister, Gladys Gerot of Lone Tree. His wife, three brothers, Raymond, Eldon and Fred and one sister, Zelma "Toots" Holcolm, died earlier.
