February 6, 2001Eva Dorothy Thompson, 84, of Oakland, Minnesota died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester. Eva was born Dec. 19, 1916, at Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Mina (McDonald) Peterson. She graduated from Austin High School and Normal Teachers College. Eva taught at Racine and rural Oakland. She was married to Harmon E. Thompson on April 8, 1939, at Northwood, Iowa, they farmed in the Oakland area. She was a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church where she was involved in WELCA, Leah Circle, the quilting group and Bible Study. An avid gardener and reader, she also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles daily. She is survived by Sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene (Barbara) Thompson, Apple Valley, Roland Thompson, Madison, Wis., Dan Thompson, Oakland, Lee (Julie) Thompson, Red Wing, Irene Thompson, Albert Lea; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dale Hallum, Albert Lea, Dorothy (Paul) Field, Albert Lea, Donna (Brad) Nelson, Lyle; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Elaine Smith, Austin, Carla Miller, Onamia, Viola Anderson, Rose Creek, Darlene and Mitchel Berhow; Oakland, Aunt Luzetta Carris, Austin; nieces and nephews.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakland Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Organist and harpist will be Sheldon Gaard; soloist will be Brad Nelson. Interment: Oakland Lutheran Cemetery. Honorary bearer will be Mary Hallum, Dorothy Field and Donna Nelson and the casket bearers will be Eugene Thompson, Roland Thompson, Dan Thompson, Lee Thompson, Terry Field and Steve Thompson. Visitation: Friends may call at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday for one hour before the service at the church.
