Myrtle Hammitt, 87, Webster City, died Aug. 20, 1996, at Hamilton County Public Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, with Dr. Wayne McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Friday until 8:30 a.m. Saturday, when the casket will be taken to the church.
Myrtle Elizabeth Trueblood, daughter of Addison and Sadie Shauver Trueblood, was born Feb. 23, 1909, in Lehigh. She attended Burniside Consolidated School in Burniside and also attended Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls. She taught in rural schools in Lehigh. On June 28, 1934, she married William Eldridge Hammitt in Renwick. The couple farmed east of Lehigh for several years. She had been employed for several years in dietary at the Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. The couple moved to Duncombe in 1969. She had resided at Crestview Manor Care Center in 1987. Her husband preceded her in death in 1990. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Mary Ann Hammitt, Blairsburg, Dale and June Hammitt, Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Joe Wakeman, Iowa Falls; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam and Ralph Trueblood, both of Fort Dodge; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Durward and Paul Trueblood; and sister, Edna Larson. Mrs. Hammitt was a member of the Duncombe United Methodist church and the United Methodist Women.
