January 13, 1898Death of B. W. Dake
Benjamin W. Dake died Saturday morning, January 8, aged 64 years, of Paralysis. Friday morning Mr. Dake arose and ate breakfast with his usual relish. At 8 o'clock he went out to the barn to do a little work and was stricken with paralysis. He lingered all day Friday and Saturday afternoon death came to relieve his troubles. Mr. Dake was born in New York State, May 31, 1833. He was twice married and leaves a wife and three children, the latter living near Vinton. In October, 1896, he moved to Eagle Grove from South Dakota, and has remained here since. Mrs. Dake is cousin of J. P. Allard of this city. The family will have the sympathy of many friends in their hour of affliction. The funeral will occur Sunday at 4:00 P.M. at the house, by carriage to Goldfield and by train to Vinton where he will be laid to rest by the side of his first wife.

January 12, 1898Death and Funeral of Mr. Dake
Benj. W. Dake died at his residence on Lucas Ave. Saturday morning Jan 8th at 10 o'clock. His death resulting from a stroke of paralysis. He was seriously crippled from a stroke which occurred about two years ago, but was usually well until last Friday morning when he experienced another attack which terminated his life. Mr. Dake was born in the State of New York in 1833. He came to Eagle Grove from Hanson Co., S.D. in Oct. 1896, living upon Wright Street. Recently he came into possession of the Campbell property where he was living at the time of this death. Mr. Dake had been married twice having three sons living at Vinton, Ia. Mrs. Dake is the mother of Beach Allard and cousin to J. R. Allard. The funeral occurred at the home opposite the Congregational Church Sunday at 4 o'clock P.M. Rev. Shafton preached the sermon. The remains were taken to Goldfield and thence by the Burlington Ry. to Vinton for interment where his first wife was buried. Mrs. Dake accompanied the remains to Vinton Mr. Dake had formed but few acquaintances in this city but he had impressed that few with a sense of his sterling virtues and genial disposition and was gladly counted a friend by all who knew him. Mrs. Dake has the true sympathy of all her neighbors and friends in this affliction.

January 11, 1898B. W. Dake who was for many years a resident of Benton Co. died last Friday at Eagle Grove, Iowa aged sixty four years. The remains were brought to Vinton for burial. A number of old friends laid the body to rest in Evergreen Cemetery Monday forenoon. Dr. Avery conducting a simple service at the grave.
