November 20, 2002Rev. Floyd Lien, 87, of Alexandria, former pastor of American Lutheran Church in Windom, died Nov. 10, 2002. Services were held Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. John Peshek and Rev. Rollen Halvorson officiating. Special music was provided Randy Morken, organist; David Eliason, accompanist; and Stephen Lien and Anna Eliason, soloists. Pallbearers were Floyd's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Merlin Bartelt, Rev. Phil Berg, Rev. Owen Doely, Rev. Marlyn Johnson, Rev. Dean Johnson, Rev. Ron Koch and Rev. Ray Peterson. Interment was at St. Petri Cemetery in Cyrus. Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Floyd Raymond Lien was born Jan. 10, 1915, to Henry and Laurine (Barsness) Lien in rural Adams, N.D. He graduated from Park River High School and attended North Dakota State University School of Agriculture for two years, majoring in soils and chemistry. He then attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Golden Valley for one year and completed his undergraduate education at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. In 1944, Floyd graduated from Luther Seminary in Minneapolis and was ordained that same year. In 1944, Floyd married Orena Wiger in Cyrus. He served in parishes in Kanawha, Iowa; Windom; Staten Island, N.Y.; and Willmar. He retired from full-time ministry in 1979, moved to Burnsville and became visitation pastor at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Richfield.
In 1984, Floyd and Orena moved to Senator Condominiums in Alexandria. Last year, Floyd entered Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria.He was preceded in death by a son, David; brothers, Wallace and Leonard Lien; and a sister, Hazel Jacobson. Survivors include his wife, Orena of Alexandria; children, James Lien of Staten Island, New York; Miriam (Mike) Svogodny of Alexandria; Stephen (Joanne) LIEN of Brentwood, Calif.; and Elizabeth (Dave) Eliason of Spicer; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Grace (Harvey) Loftsgard of Mesa, Ariz.; and Esther (Floyd) Rush of Waldorf, Md.
