Funeral services were· held for Josie Anderson on Thursday, August 27, 1987 at the St Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Vedell officiating. Hymns were sung by the congregation and the soloist was Charles Johnson accompanied by Tim Johnson at the organ. The pallbearers were Dean Simpson, Eddy Simpson, Lynn Simpson, Gary Simpson, Jim Anderson, Marvin Anderson, Clair Wenger and Mark Buchhop. Karvonen and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with interment in Woodland Cemetery.

Josephine Annetta Anderson was born April 14, 1900 at Lawler, Iowa. She died on August 24, 1987 at St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes at 87 years of age. Her parents were the late John and Sarah Bjondal. On December 23, 1918 she was united in marriage to Edwin L. Anderson at Livermore, Iowa. They made their home in the communities of Hardy, Luverne and Goldfield, Iowa. In 1949 they moved to Deer Creek and settled on a farm in Compton Township, Minnesota. Since 1974 they resided in New York Mills and the past five years Mrs. Anderson had been cared for at Emmanuel Lutheran Home, Detroit Lakes. Her husband, Ed, died on February 12, 1978.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Blanche and Rueben Simpson, New York Mills; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Honnie Anderson, Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jeneva, Mrs. Bernard Neurberg, Wadena and Mabel Poff, Prescott, Arizona; and many more distant relatives and a host of friends.
