MRS. WILLIAM DUFFY
Mrs. Wm. Duffy, one of our loved residents, has passed on to the better world after an llness of some length. Her maiden name was Sarah S. Perry and she was born in Tioga county, New York, May 26, 1853, and died Jan. 8, 1915, at Rowan, Iowa, being 61 years, 7 months, and 18 days of age. In 1865, with her mother, she moved to Hardin County, Iowa and in 1866 they moved to Galt, where she resided until her marriage, Nov. 30, 1874, to Wm. Duffy of Rowan. Mr. and Mrs. Duffy lived on their farm west of town until 1910, when they moved into Rowan. To this union three children were born, two dying in infancy. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, one son and one brother, Lyman A. Perry of Clarion, four grandchildren and a host of friends. Mother Duffy was a homemaker, a good wife and mother and a conscientious Christian, being a member of the Congregational church of Rowan. She was very devotional, constantly present at the midweek meetings when her health would permit. She loved the courts of her Lord and faith in God removed the terror and fear and sorrow of the tomb and made the grim monster a friend to help her on the passage to her eternal home.
Rev. Hoffman conducted the funeral services Monday afternoon, delivering an able discourse and taking for his text the 90th chapter and 12th verse of Psalms: "So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Also the 25th chapter and 21st verse of Matt.: "Her Lord said unto her, well done thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things I will make thee rule over many things; enter thou into the joys of thy Lord."
