MESERVEY, Iowa-- Grace Smith, 86, of Meservey, died Saturday (July 8, 1995) at the Americana Care Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 Monday night at the Grarup Funeral Home in Meservey. Grace Smith was born Oct. 14, 1908 in Meservey, Iowa, the daughter of Harm Groen Sr. and Lena (nee) Fry Groen. She graduated with the class of 1925 from the Meservey School system. She was united in marriage to Clyde Smith on Sept. 20, 1927 in Meservey. They made their home farming southwest of Clear Lake where they lived for 27 years. They retired in 1963 and moved to Meservey. Grace enjoyed her family and grandchildren, especially the holiday get-togethers. She attended the First Reformed Church of Meservey. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Rabe of Mason City, and Vivian Keith of Cincinnati, Ohio; five sons, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Grace of Clear Lake, Donald Smith of Meservey, Virgil Smith and his wife, Myrna of Waterloo, Russell Smith and his wife, Bobbie of Charles City, Michael Smith and his wife Betty of Clear Lake; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Groen of Meservey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; parents, five brothers and two sisters.
