Marian E. Breen, age 85, of Belmond, formerly of Blue Earth, MN died Monday, November 26, 2001 at Belmond Health Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, November 29, 2001 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, MN. A Catholic Daughters Rosary Service was held Wednesday, November 28. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Marian was born March 20, 1916 at her home in Wahkon, MN the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Upton) Frailey. Marian grew up in Wahkon and attended Onamia High School where she graduated salutatorian of her class in 1934. In 1936 she received her elementary school teaching certificate and taught one year in a one-room school house at Camp Johnson. She married John A. Breen on September 16, 1937 in Onamia. They began their married life in Fairmont, MN and after several moves made their home in Blue Earth in 1949. They purchased the Western Auto Store, which soon became Breen's Our Own Hardware Store. The store, now called Breen's True Value, still continues on Blue Earth's Main Street, and is the longest operating business on Main Street in Blue Earth. John and Marian worked side by side until their retirement in 1991. Marian was a longtime member of the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters for more than 50 years, holding many offices including Grand Regent. She also was a member of the W.C.C.W. and served as president, receiving the Bishops Medal for Catholic Action. She also volunteered with the St. Luke's Guild. Some of Marian's favorite pastimes were bowling, cards (500 and bridge), traveling, golf, and her family.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John on January 1, 2001. Survivors include: sons John and his wife Sue Breen of New Brighton, MN and Ken and his wife Marlys Breen of Blue Earth, MN; daughters Sharon and her husband Don Baum of Belmond and Debra and her husband DuWayne Abel of Belmond; a sister Lorraine and her husband Gordon Wagoner of Sauk Center, MN; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
