Betty J. (Pals) Morris, 70, of Belmond, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at her home near Belmond. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond with Rev. Herm Gruis officiating. Music was provided by Shirley Kuhlers, organist; Marilyn Janssen, soloist, and duet by Norman and Wayne Pals. Honorary casket bearers were Harlan Langlitz, Denny Jurgens, Hadan Pals, Arlin Pals, and Donavon Pals. Casket bearers were Randy Langlitz, Delbert Pals, Lynn Jurgens, Derald Pals, Larry Wolters, and Alan Pals. Ushers were Ron Steenblock and Bud Boelman. Interment was at Belmond Cemetery.

Betty, the daughter of Henry, Jr., and Dena Wiemann Pals was born July 4, 1931 near Meservey. She grew up in the Belmond and Meservey areas, and graduated from Belmond High School in 1949. She attended AIB in Des Moines and then worked at First State Bank in Belmond. Betty was united in marriage to Derl Morris on May 22, 1951, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. The couple made their home near Belmond and raised their family there. Betty later worked at PSI, Weisbrod Chiropractic, Farm and Home Publishing, and most recently at the Kanawha Reporter. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Betty was a member of the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond where she was active in Ladies Aid and other areas of the church.

She was preceded in death by her father; one son, Lindsey in 1998; and a great grandson, Shane. Betty is survived by her husband, Derl; a daughter and son-in-law, RoxAnne and Lyman Emery of Cedar Rapids; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kerry and Trish Morris of Belmond, Brian Morris of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren, Josh, Matt, Courtney, Amanda, Susan, Dara, Michael and Ryan; one great grandchild, Kyle; mother, Dena Pals of Belmond; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Evie and Bob Foss of Belmond, Wanda and Leonard Pals of Clear Lake, Diane and Dale Phelps of Waterloo; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
