Elmer C. Bachman, 98, of Meservey, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Westview Care Center in Britt. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church, Meservey, with Rev. Rose Calderon-Khan presiding. Interment was in Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell.

Elmer Clifford Bachman was born Dec. 2, 1909 at Goodell, a son of John and Anna (Hanson) Bachman. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He then farmed with his family and had his own farm and did carpentry work. On May 4, 1946 Elmer was united in marriage with Mary Lou Netland at Des Moines. Elmer began to work at the Klemme Elevator where he worked for 25 years he also did carpentry work for people in the area. After retiring from the Klemme Elevator, with his life he owned and operated Mary’s Tap and Grill in Meservey. Elmer was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He was known as a very good carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and as a devoted grandfather he raised his great-grandson Christian.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years Mary Lou, Forest City; sons: Lary (Linda) Bachman, Springs, Texas; Michael Bachman, Germany; daughter: Mary Anne (Dale) Espelien, Columbia Heights, Minn.; sons: James (Deb) Bachman, Tabor; Kevin (Deb Berendes) Bachman, Mason City; 15 grandchildren: John, Cliff, Ashley, Nicole, Matt (Mandy), Anna (Traves), RaeLynn (Josh), Chase, Seth, Amanda, Megan, Dylan, Haley, Austin and Stephanie; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Arthur, Vera, John ‘Buster’, Madeline, Walter and Gladys. Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey, was in charge of the arrangements.
