Robert E. Nelson, the son of Norman J. and Louise (Nelson) Nelson was born May 2, 1925 in Wright County, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. Robert served in the United States Navy from January 2, 1944 through April 19, 1946. He was united in marriage to Velma Franklin on October 19, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home near San Diego, CA where Bob worked for Cory Construction. He also worked for the Old Home Bakery in Iowa delivering bread. Robert passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Hamilton Hospital in Webster City at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma in 1997; two sisters, Dorothy Sherman and Iline Sullivan. Robert enjoyed camping and the "camping group", playing cards, cooking and watching birds and deer.

Robert is survived by his sons, Gene Nelson (Penny) of San Jose, CA, Wayne Nelson (Pam) of Grants Pass, OR, Charles Nelson (Shiela) of Webster City and daughter, Wanda Wisthoff (Daryl) of Fort Dodge; sisters, Ruth Eudy of Eagle Grove, Esther Keith of Bakersfield, CA, and brother, Harold Nelson of Virginia; Eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Stan Peterson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Foust Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
