Maxine Severson, 94, formerly of Radcliffe, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Southfield Wellness Comm. in Webster City, IA. Maxine Ione (Branyord) Strauser Severson was born in Radcliffe, Iowa, on November 4, 1914. She was the daughter of Martin E. and Ella (Amundson) Branyord. Her family lived in Radcliffe until she was about three years old and then moved to Roland, where she was baptized on May 2, 1918, by Rev. H. A. Sinedal in the Bergen Lutheran Church. When Maxine was seven years old, her family moved to a farm west of Hubbard, where she attended Sherman Township #7 (McCoy) School. On February 3, 1934, Maxine was married to Marvin A. Strauser in Des Moines, Iowa by Rev. R. L. Barnstable. They lived on her parent’s farm west of Hubbard before moving to Radcliffe. To this union one son, Wilbur A. Strauser, was born. On December 3, 1944, Maxine married Omer S. Severson in McCallsburg, Iowa by Rev. H. N. Bakke. They lived in Radcliffe, where they operated the Home Café for a couple of years. Maxine worked at the Land-O-Lakes Turkey Plant in Ellsworth, Iowa, retiring after 20 years. Maxine moved to Webster City, closer to family in the 1990’s. Maxine was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, where she also belonged to the E.L.C.W.A.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law Virginia Strauser of Cheyenne, Wyoming; eight grandchildren Vickie Britson, Toni Strauser, Tina Roberts, Ranae Anderson, Greg and Jeff Farwell, Todd and Mark Gavin; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; one brother Dean Branyord and his wife Alma of Webster City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law Gladys Branyord of Story City, Iowa and Monetta Branyord of Webster City, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands-Marvin who died in 1943 and Omer who died in 1980, son Wilbur Strauser, three brothers Kermith, Arnold and Atlee Branyord, and step-daughter Shirley (Severson) Farwell Gavin.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, IA. Funeral services have been postponed until 1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, IA. Burial will be at the Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe, IA.
