Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaBODE - John R. Hanson, 82, of Bode, passed away Friday at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rutland with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Interment will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, Ines of Bode; sons, David (Anne) Hanson of Kyle, TX and James (Omm) Hanson of Monona, IA; daughter Susan (Jim) Jennings of Humboldt; grandchildren, Sonya, Heath, Gretchen, Michael, Erika, and Hillary; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Loretta Grebner of Humboldt and Doris Cattalano of Marco Island, FL; and Brother Wayne (Rosemary) Hanson of Duncombe. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Diane; granddaughter, Melanie; and brothers-in-law, Lee Cattalano and Richard Grebner.
John Robert Hanson, the son of John and Ruth (Nelson) Hanson was born January 2, 1927 in Humboldt County. He attended country schools near Thor where he played baseball for area towns; he later graduated from Eagle Grove High School. After his education he served in the Horse Calvary at For Riley, Kansas during World War II from 1945-1946. After his honorable discharge he farmed in the Rutland area. On November 28, 1948 he was united in marriage to Ines Lehman at Badger. The family made their home near Rutland where John continued to farm until his retirement. He and Ines later moved to Bode where they currently reside. John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Rutland where he held many offices and also served as caretaker for many years. He was a member of the Bode American Legion. He loved all sports and enjoyed watching games on television, his favorite baseball team was the St. Louis Cardinals and he also enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes. John's love and livelihood was farming, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made at the family's discretion.
