L. H. Bruns was born in Tripsum, Ost Friesland, Germany, June 7th, 1852, and passed away at the Lutheran Hospital at Hampton, Iowa, March 27th, 1926, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 20 days. His death being caused from Dropsy and other complications. He was untied in marriage to Gretchen S. Beekman, August 31, 1873, and to this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy and one at the age of five. Those left to mourn the loss of their father are: Mrs. G. Cook, Charles City; Heye, Rockford; Mrs. Carl Vetter, Parker, S.D.; Ben, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Mrs. Tony Osterman, Nashua; and Leo, Greene. Mr. Bruns came to this country with his family, July 3, 1881, and lived at Belmond, Iowa, for about a year, moving to the vicinity of Charles City in 1882. It was while living near here that he was left to mourn the loss of his life companion, she dying November 29, 1892. Later Mr. Bruns moved to Sheffield, Iowa, which place he has made his home for the past thirty years. On May 4, 1904, he was married to Mary Jane Gibbs, who preceded him in death in November, 1922. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Leo Bruns, Rev. Butler, of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
