Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaRENWICK - Irene Evelyn Peer was born on November 26, 1912, at Goldfield, Iowa to John and Anna Christensen Larsen. She graduated from the Goldfield High School. After her schooling, Irene worked as a babysitter and house cleaner for neighborhood families. She was married to Norman Peer on November 26, 1938, at Goldfield. The couple farmed in the Renwick and Hardy area until 1979, when they retired and moved into Renwick. Irene was an active member of the Renwick United Methodist Church, where she also belonged to the UMW, taught Sunday School and Bible School and sang in the church choir. Irene also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and the Literary Guild. She enjoyed fishing and spending the summers at their cabin on Lake of the Woods. She also enjoyed crocheting, handiwork, needlework, and cooking. Irene loved the outdoors and loved watching and listening to the birds and growing flowers. Family was very important to Irene and although she and Norman never had a family of their own, Irene loved all of their nieces and nephews and was the first in line to hold the new babies. Norman preceded her in death in June of 2006.
Irene became a resident of the Careage of Clarion in Clarion, Iowa in September of 2006. She died there on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the age of 96. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman, 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Renwick. Funeral Services are at United Methodist Church, Renwick on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
