EAGLE GROVE - Donald Casper Thul, the son of Casper Matthew and Helen Margaret (Buellesfeld) Thul, was born May 26, 1929, in Dayton Township, rural Wright County. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. Don enlisted in the US Army in June of 1946, and was honorably discharge in May of 1949. He married Elizabeth Wagner on September 6, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Dodge. She preceded him in death on August 15, 1968. Don married Lois Dean on June 20, 1975 at Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. Don was a territory Sales Manager for Northrup King for 28 years. He retired in 1987. Don was an avid fisherman, card player and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He served as President of the Advisory Council for Northrup King for 10 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Don passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty; sons, Alan and Don; and a brother, Francis. Survivors include his wife, Lois Thul; son, Larry (Verla) of Thor; daughters, Marlena Fisher (Joe) of Goldfield, Carol Messerly of Fort Dodge and LuAnn Gaillard (Tom) of Fort Dodge; son, Michael Thul (Janelle) of Eagle Grove; step sons, Kent Dean of Herman, NE and Kelly Dean of Eagle Grove; sisters, Marge Larson and Lucille Nelson, both of Eagle Grove; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Reverend Monsignor John Hemann officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Rosary Recitation at 5 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
