EAGLE GROVE - Wallace J. Simpson, 68, of Eagle Grove lost a seven-year battle with cancer Monday, April 6, 2009 at Hospice of Wright County in Clarion, Iowa his body was cremated with services provided by Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Military graveside services will be Saturday, April 18, 9:00 a.m., at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa, followed by an 11:00 a.m. memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 206 Gillespie Street, Renwick, Iowa 50577 with Lynn Noel officiating.

Wallace James (Wally) Simpson was born August 7, 1940 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Wesley and Gladys (Larson) Simpson. He was educated in the Thor and Eagle Grove school systems, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1958. After attending Eagle Grove Junior College for 2 years, Wally joined the United State Air Force with several friends from the local area in January, 1961. During a 20-year career, Wally was stationed at various Air Force bases across the United States and served one tour of duty in Korea and two in Viet Nam during the war. On February 15, 1979, he married Angie Pouliot in Pappilion, NE. They were divorced in 1993. He received an honorable discharge in 1981, and was hired by the State of Florida where he performed 20 years of dedicated service while serving in supervisory positions in the field of supply. He retired in 2002 and moved back to Iowa in 2005 to be near old friends and relatives. Wally enjoyed sharing stories and visiting with his good friends and relatives here and with those in Arizona and Florida as well. He enjoyed the trips to various Iowa casinos, and was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 642, Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Survivors include a brother, Kent, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins along with close friends Ron Larson of Renwick and Joe Biondahl of Thor and their families. Wally was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Roger and Douglas. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Wright County, 1316 South Main Street, Clarion, Iowa 50525.
