The Rev. Edger R. Rosen, 86, of Staunton, Virginia died on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at King's Daughters' Nursing Home. He was born June 20, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of the late Erik and Esther Scott Rosen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Susan Rosen, and a sister, Carrie Hamann. He received his elementary education in Fort Dodge, Iowa. From 1941 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and trained as a Glider pilot having served in China, Burma and India. In 1948 he graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. He was captain of the wrestling team. He also belonged to the monogram club, Tau Beta Pi; Pi Tau Sigma; A.S.M.E.; and Omicron Delta Kappa. In 1960 he was employed by General Electric in Erie Pa, Schenactady, N.Y. and Waynesboro. He and his wife, Barbara "Bobbie," were members of Bethany Lutheran Church where he made a decision to prepare for the ministry. He was a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Ill., served congregations in Beverly Hills, Calif., Eagle Grove, Iowa, Cleveland, Tenn., Elizabethton, Ky., Lidderdale, Iowa, and Fort Dodge, Iowa. He also served part time as executive assistant for missions, Iowa West District Office. Survivors include his wife, Barbara "Bobbie" Rosen; two sons, Scott Rosen and his wife, Bonnie, of Oregon and Joel Rosen of Roanoke; three grandsons, Lt. Christopher Rosen, serving with the Coast Guard in Virginia, D.J. Rosen and his wife, Tabatha, of Roanoke and S/Sgt. Erick Rosen serving in Southeast Asia; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Norman Rosen and his wife, Nancy, of Iowa, Dan Rosen and his wife, Ellie, Cliff Rosen and his wife, Alice and Joel Rosen and his wife Carole Ann, all of Virginia; two sisters, Judith Puffenbarger and her husband, Jim, of Nebraska, and Donna Sexton and her husband, Bill, of Virginia. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, in Bethany Lutheran Church in Waynesboro. A service will follow in the church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Tim Bohlmann officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery with the American Legion Post 340 providing military rites. Active pallbearers will be retired pastors, the Rev. William Bloom, the Rev. Gordon Bohlmann, the Rev. Harold Kitzmann, the Rev. John DeJong, the Rev. David Luecke, the Rev. Donald Morthole and John Browning and Charles Randow. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Kerby, Ivan Augustin and Ted Crapser. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Concordia Seminary "Food Bank," in care of Bethany Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
