WEBSTER CITY - Frances Mitchell, 77, of Webster City, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Mary Greeley Medical Center at Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Chapel, with Pastors Richard Laird and Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday.

Frances Violet Rasmussen, daughter of Charles and Florence Morgan Rasmussen, was born August 17, 1931 at Webster City. She received her education in the Webster City school system, graduating from Lincoln High in 1950. She attended I.C.C.C. and U.N.I., receiving a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in rural schools then third grade at Ellsworth from 1952 to 1957. In 1958, she completed her degree in physical education from Buena Vista College. She taught at Storm Lake and Belmond in the physical education department. For ten years, she substituted in the Webster City school system. On February 20, 1960, she married Darrel Jean Mitchell at the Church of Christ in Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. Mr. Mitchell died July 17, 1977. Frances had resided at Southfield since March of 2001. Frances is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Mitchell of Duncombe; Steve and Angie Mitchell of Melcher-Dallas; Jim and Cindy, and Ted and Janet, all of Webster City; Robert and Robin Mitchell of Boone; stepdaughter, Carol Coleman of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Jolene, Kelsie, Lauren, Matthew, Nolan and Olivia Mitchell; Evan, Morgan and Alex Mitchell; Cameron and McKenna Mitchell; Seth and Sierra Mitchell; sister, Mary Des Jardins of Webster City; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Norma Rasmussen of Webster City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary.
