Charles P. Thompson was born on July 10, 1915, near Hardy, Iowa to Adolph C. and Luella Olden Thompson. He graduated from the Vernon Consolidated School near Renwick, Iowa. After his schooling, Charlie started farming north of Hardy. He lived and farmed on the same farm most of his life. He was married to Lila Mae Larson on February 1, 1974 at Renwick. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1974. In the late 1980’s, Charlie moved into Renwick and lived for several years. He then moved to the Rotary Ann Complex in Eagle Grove, Iowa and lived there until his death on Sunday, March, 22, 2009 at the age of 93. Charlie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick. He enjoyed farming, not only as an occupation, but as a hobby. He also enjoyed keeping up with the news, markets and business news. Charlie liked to keep fit and walked 3 to 5 miles per day. He is survived by his two step-daughters, Arlene Johnson (A.J.) and husband, Del, Indianola, Iowa and Ruth Hummel and husband, Dick, Phoenix, Arizona. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 4 brothers, Lawrence, Boyd, Don and Bob and his sister, Lois Trieschman.
