Enid Effie Nelson, the daughter of Edwin and Eva (Madsen) Nelson, was born July 29, 1915, on her parents' farm east of Rowan. She attended Rowan area schools and later attended school in Minnesota. At an early age she took on the role of helping to care for her dad and younger brother, Ernie. Enid began her church life in the Danish United Methodist Church at Coulter. At the age of 23, Enid was united in marriage to Vergene Andrews on Aug. 31, 1938, at Mason City. Enid and Vergene's union was blessed with two daughters, Janet and Jerene, and two sons, Myron and Verlynn. Enid and Vergene farmed for many years near Rowan, where she was not only a homemaker but a partner in the operations of the farm. Enid assisted with many of the farming tasks, including raising poultry and harvesting eggs. Enid was a dedicated wife and nurturing mother who relished the role of providing for her family's needs. She was a lady with a green thumb who raised a large garden and always had a house full of beautiful plants, a favorite of which were African violets. Enid and Vergene loved to go on camping excursions with family and friends and were long-time members of the Dows Road Runner's Camping Group. Enid and Vergene enjoyed playing 500 and participating in various Rowan area card clubs. She enjoyed fishing throughout her entire life and looked forward to fishing treks to Mille Lacs Lake, and the Waterville, Minn., areas as well as excursions to lakes and rivers in Rowan and the North Iowa region. Enid lived for a number of years at the McBurney Apartments in Belmond before becoming a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center seven years ago following a decline in health. During her time there she enjoyed various activities until her sight made things difficult to participate. Enid's faith life was always important to her. She and Vergene were always devoted to their church life in Rowan and in later years in Belmond. Enid and Vergene were active members of the Rowan Congregational Church where she was involved with the Church Women's Fellowship. The couple also made sure to lend their support during the time the new church was built in Rowan. Enid was a long-time member of the United Church of Rowan. After moving to the town of Belmond in 1977, they attended Calvary Baptist Church. After Vergene's death on Aug. 18, 1978, Enid continued to make Calvary Baptist her church home and had participated in Bible studies there. Enid was a long-time member of the Belmond Senior Citizens and had a life-long love of music.

Those left to cherish the memory of her life include her two daughters, Janet (Larry) Hansen, Dows, and Jerene (Chuck) Daniels, Simpsonville, S.C.; her two sons, Myron (Diane) Andrews, Newton, and Verlynn (Lyn) Andrews, Alexander; a brother, Ernie (Iris) Nelson, Rowan; step-sister, Phyllis Smith, Deep River; sister-in-law, Bernice Andrews, Belmond; her grandchildren, Jeffery (Terri) Hansen, Clarion, Jay Hansen, Dows, Jim (Barb) Hansen, West Des Moines, Jackie (Michael) Mays, Plainfield, Ill., Becky (John) Delvaux, Greer, S.C., Jodi (Jamie) Fleming, Simpsonville, S.C., Michael Andrews, Newton, Timothy Andrews, Newton, Kamera (Steven) Loroenz, Cary, N.C., Shawn (Tawnda) Andrews, Mapleton, Minn., and Laura Andrews (fiance Brandon Bird), Sheffield; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
