ALTON, Iowa -- Mark C. Greving, 51, of Alton passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Orange City Municipal Hospital in Orange City, Iowa, following a long battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Alton Reformed Church, with the Revs. Michael Hardeman and Elizabeth Hardeman officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Monday in Nassau Township Cemetery, rural Alton. There will be a family prayer service at 1 p.m. Monday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 3 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mark Claire was born June 27, 1954, in Orange City, the son of Clarence F. and Gladys M. (Van Wyk) Greving. He was raised in Newkirk, Iowa, Overeisle, Mich., Hollandale, Minn. and Alton, where the family moved in 1965. He graduated from Floyd Valley High School in Alton and attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. He also attended the University of South Dakota in Springfield. On Sept. 4, 1982, he married Ruth L. Eekhoff in Alton. They made their home in Alton, where he operated Mark's Cabinet Shop for 22 years. They then moved to an acreage east of Alton. He began working for Pella Corporation in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was a member of Alton Reformed Church, where he taught Sunday School classes, sponsored the Reformed Church Youth Fellowship and served in the consistory as a deacon and an elder. He also belonged to Alton Chamber of Commerce and had served in the Alton City Council. He enjoyed attending his children's activities, camping with his family, fishing, hiking, gardening, woodworking and doing projects around the acreage.

Survivors include his wife of more than 23 years, Ruth; three children, Leslie Ann Greving of Omaha, Luke Jared Greving a student at South Dakota State University in Brookings and Lana Marie at home; his parents, the Rev. Clarence and Gladys Greving of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Warren and Jan Greving of Beijing, China; two sisters and their husbands, Emilee and Lloyd Te Brink of Alton and Julie and Phil Moss of Monument, Colo.; and 11 nephews and nieces, Brett, Justin, Robin and Graham Greving, Sarah, Katie and Tim Te Brink and Zach, Abby, Olivia and Michaela Moss. He is also survived by Ruth's family, her parents, Paul and Jennie Eekhoff of Kanawha, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Diane and Kyle Amonson of Eagle Grove, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Dean and Lynette Eekhoff of Holland, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Connie Eekhoff of Britt, Iowa; and eight nieces and nephews, Ben, Linda and Jessica Eekhoff, Travis, April and Courtney Amonson and Rebecca and Jeremy Eekhoff. In addition to his grandparents, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Steve Eekhoff. Memorials may be directed to the family for the children's college education funds or hospice.
