March 29, 2000Leote M. Roose, 102, of Sioux City died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Douglas M. Klein officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Roose was born Nov. 27, 1897, in Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of John L. and Ida (White) Sullivan. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Garland H. Roose on Nov. 10, 1936, in Salina, Kan. He died April 1, 1974, in Sioux City. She had been a teacher in the Sioux City public school system for many years. She taught in the primary department of Hunt, Smith and Emerson schools, retiring in 1965. She was a member of local and state National Teachers Association, Federal Employers Assocation, TIE Club, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Christian Women's Gospel Mission, Sioux City Women's Club, the Garden Club and Humane Society. Survivors include a brother, Jaye M. Sullivan of Fort Collins. Colo.; two nephews, Christopher Sullivan of Telluride, Colo., and Dr. Mark Sullivan of Monarch Beach, Calif.; and a niece, Karen Sullivan of Claremont, Calif. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Sullivan. Memorials may be directed to the Sioux City Humane Society or the March of Dimes.
