Henry Arthur Ludeke

Mr. Ludeke passed away early Monday morning, September 14, 1964, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, where he had been admitted a short time before. He had been in failing health for several years. Henry Arthur Ludeke was born Feb. 16, 1885, to Herman F. and Martha (Vennekolt) Ludeke, on the Ludeke homestead, one mile west of Klemme, Iowa. He attended both rural and Klemme schools, finishing his education at Charles City Iowa College. At the age of 13, Henry was converted and joined the Liberty Methodist Church. In later years, he attended the Klemme Methodist Church and the E.U.B. Church of of Meservey. Upon retiring from the farm his membership was transferred to the Klemme Methodist Church. On October 22, 1918, he was united in marriage to Agnes Z. Greene of Boscobel, Wisconsin. They were engaged in farming until retirement. They began farming at the north west edge of Klemme and five years later moved to a farm 1/2 mile west of Klemme where they built new buildings and also built and operated a sorghum manufacturing plant. In 1930 they bought a farm two miles north of Klemme and lived there two years, then purchased a larger farm near Meservey, Iowa, where they resided until retirement, when they moved to Klemme. To this union were born 2 children: Paul W. and Ruth Agnes.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Clara (Fred) Schlicting, Mrs. Lydia (William) Ax, Mrs. Sarah (Elmer) Weisbrod, Mrs. Ida (Carl) Suckow; two brothers, Frederick Ludeke and Elmer Ludeke. The infant daughter passed away February 2, 1927. Surviving are his wife, Agnes of Klemme, son, Paul and wife, Marie and grandson, Larry of Hannibal, Missouri. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Arthur (Emma) Schoenwetter, Klemme, Mrs. George (Mary) Schoenwetter, Klemme; one brother, Ralph Ludeke, Clear Lake.

Casket Bearers: Raymond Christians, Harry Gibbs, John VanOsten, Martin Karsjens, Richard Carolus, Harwood Avery.

Interment: Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, Iowa
