GRAETTINGER, IA -- Funeral service for Lela M. Jones of Graettinger is 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 13, at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. Burial is in Valley View Cemetery. The Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger is in charge of arrangements.

Lela Jones, 90, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the Ruthven Care Center. Lela Larsen Jones was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Walnut, the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Kelgord) Larsen. The family moved to a farm in Palo Alto County in 1920. Lela attended country school in two different districts. On April 8, 1942, Lela was united in marriage to Merle Jones at the family farm. The couple lived in the Graettinger area most of their lives, except for two years in Renwick and two years at Clear Lake.

Lela was an employee of the Graettinger Community School District where she served as the Food Service Director for the hot lunch program of the school for several years. Lela was a member of the Graettinger United Methodist Church, Naomi Circle and the U.M.W. and she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Lela enjoyed making necklaces, walking, babysitting and visiting with neighbors, family and friends. Survivors include her brother, Elliott Larsen, and his wife, Norma of Spencer; and many nieces nephews and friends. Lela Jones was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Merle.
