MESERVEY, IA-- Esther Ann Enabnit, 89, of 911 Eighth St. N.E., Belmond, died Sunday (July 21, 1996) at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester of First Reformed Church, Meservey, and the Rev. Melvin Voss of the Bethany Reformed Church, Belmond, officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey.

Mrs. LuVerne (Esther Anna Backhaus) Enabnit was born in Worth County, Manly, Iowa, on Oct. 20, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Schlake) Backhaus. Sacrament of Holy Baptism was Dec. 26, 1906, and she was confirmed and received into the membership of St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Manly, on April 1, 1923, by the Rev. R.A. Mensendick. She attended rural schools and graduated from Manly High School on June 3, 1926. She attended Iowa State College, Ames, for two years. She also attended Hamilton College of Commerce, Mason City. On Feb. 28, 1943, she moved with her parents from the farm to Clear Lake, where they purchased a home and she was employed at the Clear Lake Bakery. She was united in marriage on Sept. 16, 1953, to LuVerne Enabnit of Meservey, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, by the Rev. Glenn Utterbach. She transferred her membership to the Evangelical Church, Meservey. They made their home on a farm northwest of Meservey until retiring in February of 1968, when they purchased a home and moved to Belmond. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Marlys and her husband, Robert Thedinger, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and five stepgrandchildren, Robert and Patricia Thedinger of Kansas City, Mo.; Dr. Bradley and Roys Thedinger, of Kansas City, Mo.; Dr. Britt and Kelly Thedinger of Omaha, Neb.; Bartlett and Amy Thedinger of St. Joseph, Mo., and Stephanie and Joseph Fitzgerald of Boston, Mass.; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, LuVerne; her parents; and her brother.
