Dr. Wayne Lee Emerson, the son of Clarence and Nellie (Bawn) Emerson was born March 16, 1924, on the family farm in Troy Township. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1941. Wayne then attended Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1949. Wayne joined the United States Navy on July 12, 1944. He served aboard the USS Bexar during WWII. Wayne married Mary M. Haller on February 15, 1947 in Des Moines. The couple lived in Ames, Iowa while Wayne finished college. Wayne entered veterinary practice with his brother, Orin Emerson in 1949. His son joined the practice in 1976. He practiced until the day he died. Wayne was a member of the Bower Lodge #464, Eagle Grove, a life member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He also served on the Eagle Grove City Council.

Wayne passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009 at his home in Eagle Grove at the age of 84 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary on November 13, 1995; brothers, Orin, Gerald, Dale and sister, Joan. Survivors include his son, Ron and wife Sally of Clarion; daughter, Robyn Reis and husband Ron of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mathis, Jill Rothmund, Quinn Emerson and Kirk Reis; two great grandsons, Donavon Mathis and Roscoe Rothmund and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, with Pastor Mike Agnew officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation or the Humane Society of Wright County.
