Dale William Lockwood was born October 23, 1928 in Hardy, Iowa, son of Walter J. and Elsie A. (Hoffman) Lockwood. As a young child, his family moved to Burt where he graduated from Burt High School in 1946. He then attended Iowa State College. Dale served in the United States Army during the Korean War from May 1951 until May 1953. He was united in marriage to Jean Smith on July 17, 1955 at the Burt United Methodist Church. After returning home from the service, Dale worked at the Burt Co-op Lumber Yard. Later he started in the Insurance Business with Equitable Life Insurance Co. of the United States. He then formed Lockwood Insurance Service and continued in the Insurance business retiring after 43 years due to health reasons. Dale enjoyed working with wood, designing his own projects and he made furniture as well as many wood craft items. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling when his health permitted, and was an avid golfer until his eyesight failed him. Dale was a charter member of the North Kossuth Golf Club, and the original Algona Community Playhouse taking part in several plays with his favorite part playing Elwood P. Dodd in “Harvey”. He also served as past president of the Burt Lions Club, the Algona Toastmasters, and the Kossuth County Taxpayers Association. He was a long time associate of the Algona Lions Club, a life member of the American Legion, and a member of the Burt United Methodist Church for 65 years serving on several comities.

Dale W. Lockwood died on his birthday, Sunday, October 23, 2005, at Kossuth Regional Healthcare Center, at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, K. Jean Lockwood of Burt; a sister, Shirley Clark of Spencer; and three nieces, Rochelle Lamport and her husband Bill of Leesburg, VA, Jennifer Schomberg and her husband Pat of Fort Dodge, and Colette Rossiter and her husband Leo of Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Steven Clark; and a brother-in-law, Arnold Clark.
