May 13, 1920 -- September 7, 1996

Virginia Bohner Ballard, age 76, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, died September 7, 1996, of a respiratory ailment at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge. Funeral services held at the Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Interment, Violet Hill Cemetery, Perry, Iowa. Survivors included two daughters, Judy Ballard Egesdal of Greentop MO, and Janis Ballard Olson of Ft Dodge IA; seven grandchildren, Jodi Lambert, Stephen Lambert, Kelly Stockdale, Kimberly Stockdale Klein, Douglas Stockdale, Jeffrey Olson and Jennifer Olson Ford; five great grandchildren; a brother Robert Earl Bohner of Perry; and a sister Kathryn Bohner Daniels of Sioux City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Ballard; her parents, Robert Abraham and Louella Mae Collins Bohner; and one brother, Richard Edward Bohner.

Virginia May, the daughter of Robert Abraham & Louella Mae Collins Bohner, was born in Boone County near Perry, IA., on May 13, 1920. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Perry High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Howard E. Ballard on July 26, 1944, by Rev. Rogers, in the home of Virginia's Uncle Fred Bohner in Des Moines, IA. Howard was born on July 18, 1916 at Minburn, Dallas County, Iowa to Wallie E, and Sada Andrews Ballard. After their marriage, Virginia and Howard lived in Des Moines where Virginia worked at Stoner's Meat Market and as a sales representative for Fuller Brush and John Hancock Insurance. The couple lived in Des Moines before moving to Perry. Virginia worked at Stoner's Meat Market and also sold for Fuller Brush Company and John Hancock Insurance. Virginia and Howard moved to Perry and in the late 1950's, the family moved to Coon Rapids, IA, where Howard and Virginia owned and operated Ballard's Mobile Service and Grocery Store. They returned to Perry in the early 1960's, and in 1971, they moved to Eagle Grove IA, and later to Fort Dodge, IA. Virginia was a homemaker and Howard worked for Ridgewood Bowling Lanes in Fort Dodge for 13 years.
