Lillie L. Vierkant, 87, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully Friday, May 25, 2007 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. A private family memorial service and burial were held Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Meservey Cemetery with the Rev. Rose Calderon-Khan presiding.
Lillie Waltzing was born on April 22, 1920. On March 1, 1937 she was united in marriage to Bennie R. Vierkant. They began their married life on the Vierkant family farm near rural Meservey. They resided on the farm until December of 1953, when Bennie, Lillie, and their daughter, Marlene, moved to Meservey. Bennie passed away on October 20, 1990. Lillie continued to live in the same home for 49 years, until 2002, when she moved to her daughter's home in Humboldt. She continued to live with her daughter until May 22, when she entered the hospital. Prior to failing health, Lillie was an avid homemaker and gardener. She was known for her delicious homemade cookies, rolls, breads, pies, and cakes and meals prepared from her home canned produce. In earlier years she enjoyed babysitting her two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Until recently her hobby was crocheting, especially doily's, tablecloths and afghans.
Lillie is survived by her daughter, Marlene Blau Crawford of Humboldt; two grandchildren, Donnie (Jennie) Blau of Mason City and Betty (Tom) Blumer of Meservey; three great-grandchildren, Krystal (Jesse) Perez of Newark, Calif., Melissa Blau of Mason City and Benjamin Blumer of Meservey; one great-great-grandchild, Navina Perez of Newark, Calif. Lillie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bennie; sons-in-law, Frederick (Turk) Blau, Harold Jones, and Paul (Gene) Crawford; and one step-great-grandson, James True.
