Max Helgevold Funeral Services Will Be Held Friday In Ruthven

RUTHVEN, IA--Funeral services for Max Helgevold of Ruthven will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Luther Thoresen will officiate. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Mania Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements. Honorary bearers are Gene Herbers, Duane Larson and Vic Lothe. Casket bearers are Joe Helgevold, Jim Helgevold, Bob Bledsoe, Keith Sadler, Scott Nading and Doug Helgevold. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday, Nov. 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. Mrs. Helgevold died Monday, Nov. 21, 1994, at North Iowa Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She was 85.

Max (Schaeffer) Helgevold was born Feb. 13,1909, in Eagle Grove, the daughter of Theodore and Hilda (Seaquist) Schaeffer. She received her education in Eagle Grove. On Dec. 20,1934, Max and Joseph were married in Eagle Grove. The couple lived in Eagle Grove, High View, Fenton, Ringsted and Ayrshire before moving to Ruthven in 1942. They were current residents at the Ruthven Community Care Center. Mrs. Helgevold taught school for 24 years at several schools: High View School, Lake Center School and the Ayrshire School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven and the Homemaker's Club. Survivors include her husband, Joseph of Ruthven; three children, Joseph Mark Helgevold of New Richmond, Wisc., Janis Maguire of Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia, and Dr. David Helgevold of Hawarden; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Eunice Helgevold of Oelwein. Mrs. Helgevold was preceded in death by a son, Paul; a grandson, David Lowell; her parents; a sister, Lenore Sadler and a brother, Don Schaeffer.
