Walter F. Bloom died November 20, 2006 one month after his wife Emma passed away. They would have celebrated their 73rd Wedding Anniversary December 7. Walter was born to Henry and Emma Bloom in Renwick, Iowa on December 1, 1910. He was one of seven children, all previously deceased. Walter graduated from Iowa State Teachers' College. There he met and married Emma Smith following their graduation. They were married in Princeton, Missouri in 1933. Walter taught history, shop, and coached in Lake Park, Iowa and Spencer, Iowa. Following this, he operated a wholesale food distribution business for many years. Walter and Emma raised their children in Spencer, Iowa. He was extremely hard working and dedicated to his family also serving his community on the city council and The Grace Methodist Church. They made their home at La Cresta Estates in Colorado Springs for the last 28 years. Walter is survived by his son, Dr. Gary Bloom, Colorado Springs and two daughters, Barbara Bloom, Syracuse, New York, and Sharon Beaman, Tucson, Arizona. They have four granddaughters, two grandsons, and seven great grandsons. His cousin Flo Schlesselman lives in Colorado Springs. Our family greatly appreciates all the kind friends at La Cresta Estates and the caring staff at Garden of the Gods Care Center where Walter and Emma spent their last days together. A family memorial will be held in Spencer, Iowa this summer.

Walter and Emma BloomA memorial service for Walter and Emma Bloom will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at Grace United Methodist Church Chapel. Walter F. Bloom passed away Nov. 20, 2006, one month after Emma J. Bloom passed away Sunday, Oct. 22. Emma was born in Osceola on Jan. 19, 1914 and Walter was born in Renwick on Dec. 1, 1910. Both Walter and Emma graduated from Iowa State Teachers' College. There they met and married following their graduation. They were married in Princeton, Missouri in 1933. Walter taught history, shop, and coached in Lake Park, Iowa and Spencer, Iowa and Emma taught country school. Following this, he operated a wholesale food distribution business for many years.
Walter and Emma raised their children in Spencer. Walter served his community on the city council and The Grace Methodist Church. Together they made their home at La Cresta Estates in Colorado Springs for the last 28 years.
