Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaHermie E. Wingerson, 80, of Fort Dodge passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer, at the Paula Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Sersland of St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. Burial of her cremains will be held a later date in the North Lawn Cemetery. Family will greet friends on Saturday between noon and 1:00 p.m at the funeral home.
Hermie E. Wingerson was born June 10, 1928 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond Franklin and Mary Roxcena (Orr) Lalor. She was raised and educated in the Eagle Grove area. On February 11, 1946 she was united in marriage to Richard A. Wingerson at the Open Bible Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She worked for several years at Globe Union before becoming a cook at St. Edmond's High School. She retired from St. Edmond's to take care of her husband Richard. Hermie was very active in the veteran's organizations. She was past president of the local V.F.W. Auxiliary and past president of the Amvets Auxiliary. She loved cooking and enjoyed her time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great granddaughter. Her family was her most treasured part of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard A. Wingerson Sr. in 1995, son Richard A. Wingerson Jr. in 1974, granddaughter Brenda Dee Lanning in 1969, brothers Wayne Lalor, John (Jerry) Lalor and sister Maxine Smith. She is survived by daughter Linda E. Clark of Fort Dodge, sons Bill Wingerson (Lorraine) of Footville, WI, Steve Wingerson (Diane) of Mesa, AZ and daughter-in-law Joan Miller of Saffard, AZ; grandchildren Shelly, Scott, Amy, Denise, Andy, Ryan and Christine; great grandchildren Chad, Andrea, Wendi, Dillon, Noah, Evan and Jorge; great-great granddaughter Ava Rose. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family
