Theodore (Ted) A. Swelland, 92, passed away January 11th, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in Kanawha, Iowa in 1916 to Harry and Esther Swelland, the oldest of 7 children. Ted had many jobs throughout his long life, among them farming, ran an egg produce, sold magazines, accordions, fire extinguishers, and Fuller Brush door to door. In 1943 he married Lila Lee in Kenyon, Minnesota. They lived most of their early years in Minnesota and moved to Arizona in 1974. After settling in the Phoenix area, they enjoyed going to yard sales and then re-selling items at swap meets in Arizona. Lila passed away in March of 2007 and since then, Ted has been living at Baptist Village in Glendale. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and one sister. Ted is survived by a son, Gary Swelland (Ileen) of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Christine Federico (Ralph) of Phoenix, AZ, Eric Swelland (Elizabeth) of Katy, TX; great grandchildren, Joseph and Josh Federico and Bella and Abby Swelland; sisters, Charlotte Tolzmann (Fred) and Lavonne Sims of California and Betty Jensvold (Ken) and Marilyn Hagan (Ron) of Minnesota. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17th, 1:30 pm at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Avenue, Glendale with graveside services to follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
